Pfeiffer Invests in New Logistics and Technology Centres
Manufacturer of pharmaceutical pumps Pfeiffer is investing €12 million in a new building project at its main manufacturing plant in Eigeltingen, Germany. The logistics centre and new technical centre will cover a combined floor area of over 6500 m². In use since January 2009, the logistics centre incorporates high bay racking, dedicated delivery and dispatch areas, plus a packaging facility. In the technical centre, tools will be built, tested, maintained and repaired by on-site experts. The technical centre will start operation in August 2009 with industrialisation and tooling services covering an area of 3375 m².
The new logistics centre features plastic palettes, the total elimination of cardboard, and air screens to prevent contamination from the integrated loading bays. The new centre also includes a laboratory, where materials are checked in accordance with the company’s quality standards. Thomas Klofac, President of the Pfeiffer Pharma Division, explains that the investment programme is geared to meeting growing demand, particularly for ophthalmic products and electronic dispensing technology and systems for preservative-free substances.
Connector Company Invests €3 Million in New Production Facility
Connector specialist ODU Steckverbindungssysteme GmbH has expanded its plant in Mühldorf, Germany with the construction of a new manufacturing facility. By the end of 2009, the manufacturer plans on housing 60 high-tech CNC automatic turning machines in the new building.With this expansion, the company is broadening its base in systematic customer orientation and product-specific developments so that it can react quickly and flexibly to customer requirements.
This investment has increased production capacity to seven million component parts a month. The manufacturer has invested more than €3 million, which includes the construction of the new building, the purchase of new automatic turning machines and an environmentally sound and efficient cooling system. The firm currently manufactures component parts for its connection systems on more than 100 CNC automatic turning machines.
Certified to ISO 9001:2000, the company operates facilities throughout the world.
Vetter Pharma Launches Subsidiary
Vetter Pharma-Fertigung GmbH & Co. KG has announced the formation of a new subsidiary, Vetter Pharma International GmbH. Known as “VPI” for short, the subsidiary will be responsible for the company’s international sales, marketing and customer service activities.
Peter Soelkner has been named Managing Director, and Oskar Gold will serve as Vice President of the new entity. The headquarters is based in Ravensburg, Germany; Vetter Pharma International USA Inc. is located in the city of Yardley, PA, USA.

Roland is an industry veteran with a background as an electronic engineer. He is fluent in several languages, including German, French, Italian and English.
