British Firms Enter into Inhaler Testing Collaboration
Malvern Instruments (Malvern, Worcs, UK) has entered into a working relationship with Copley Scientific (Nottingham, UK). As a result, the Spraytec particle-size analyzer from Malvern Instruments will be made compatible with a range of accessories from Copley Scientific. The Spraytec system is suited for testing particle sizes generated from sprays and aerosols. The collaboration is expected to further Copley Scientific’s research and quality control capability. Malvern anticipates that the partnership will increase its understanding of inhaler operation.

Rubber Manufacturer Becomes Centre of Excellence
Minnesota Rubber Europe in Pacy-sur-Eure near Paris has been selected to become a centre of excellence for new product development and to reinforce European customer care. The factory contains black-rubber and liquid silicone rubber injection presses, a full materials laboratory, a distribution warehouse, and a European sales and marketing organization. The plant will work closely with the company’s factories in North America and Singapore.

Swiss Firm Opens US Micromachining Center
A Swiss company specializing in water-jet-guided laser technology has announced that it will open a micromachining center in Boston, MA, USA. Aimed at meeting the needs of the region’s medical, electronics, and tooling markets, the center is slated to open in January 2007. The company also has announced that it is planning to open an additional US center in Silicon Valley in California.
The Boston site will feature the firm’s LCS 300 device, which can be used to cut, drill, and groove metal masks for medical device applications.
