Bio-Gate AG's (Bremen, Germany; www.bio-gate.de) plasma-based coatings for implants and medical instruments are available in seven colours. The silver-based HyProtect coatings safeguard against bacterial contamination. The degree of surface hydrophilicity and hydrophobicity can be adjusted to suit specific product requirements. The coatings come in a range of transparent colours to allow visibility of product markings. The pictured devices are made from high-gloss stainless steel; various hues are possible depending on the material being coated and its surface properties.
