Posted by emdtadmin on September 1, 2007

Sandvik Materials Technology AB (Sandviken, Sweden), an international manufacturer of alloys for medical and dental applications, has announced that it has acquired Doncasters Medical Technologies (DMT), a UK supplier of orthopaedic implants and instruments. The firm serves medical technology companies that supply hospitals and physician clinics. Headquartered in Melbourne, Derbyshire, the company has an employee base of 430 and is also active in the United States and Mexico. By contrast, Sandvik Materials Technology has 8600 employees.

Under the agreement, DMT's core business as a contract manufacturer of orthopaedic products will be renamed Sandvik Medical Solutions. The acquisition will give the Swedish company Sandvik Materials Technology a range of new service offerings including materials development, surface-treatment capability, contract manufacturing, and product design assistance. “The merger will allow us to develop our involvement in the medical market," says Peter Gossas, the firm's president. In addition, the acquisition will enable the firm to work with its customers in the early stages of the product development cycle.
