A provider of domain-specific modelling tools, MetaCase (Jyväskylä, Finland; www.metacase.com), has announced the release of the latest version of its flagship software tool, MetaEdit+ 4.5 SR1. The release is designed to simplify the creation of graphical domain-specific language (DSL) for organizations interested in generating full code from models. New metamodelling tools are provided to ease language design. Because manual coding is not required, user-created languages can be tested immediately during development. Existing models update automatically in response to language changes.
Updates to the integrated generator tools support reverse engineering tasks, enabling users to read data from external sources such as legacy code. This allows developers to control the reverse engineering process and to define how legacy code should be used and visualized within the models.
The software release allows users on different platforms, with different license types and different modelling languages, to work together. Because only a minimum amount of design information is locked, multiple users can simultaneously edit the same models and objects. As a result, the software ensures that the models are free from design data conflicts. Improved administrative tools are provided for streamlining multi-user setup and maintenance, facilitating remote control over various automated processes such as routine backups and the integration of revision-control systems.
Included in the release are several new, practical example languages, including business process modelling notation. Offered with descriptions, these example languages are designed to assist users in quickly defining their own DSL.
