Bern Optics Inc. has announced the availability of custom optical elements with dimensions as small as 0.20 mm. They can be custom engineered, ground and polished to micron tolerances in a variety of configurations, including lenses, prisms, axicons, filters, windows, domes, and mirrors, as well as special components with combinations of plano, spherical and cylindrical surfaces.

Typically created from optical and filter glasses, these tiny elements can be produced to submillimetre dimensions, with or without specialised coatings, to meet specific application requirements. These precision custom optical parts are ideal for use in a variety of instruments, where small size is key.

Founded in 1989 by Bernd Gottschalk, Bern Optics is fully integrated to convert raw glass into highly accurate coated optical components, from prototype to volume production.
