Bantam jack spacers and similar electrical and electronic components custom molded by
Minnesota Rubber and Plastics (MR&P; Pacy-sur-Eure, France) offer high strength and heat resistance. The components can be used for medical applications that involve electronic wiring or cabling. The manufacturer reports that the connectors, which are precision moulded with polyetherimide (PEI), offer improved design function and cost efficiency compared to other material formulations including similar metal parts.
In addition to beneficial electrical features, these PEI bantam jack spacers have high hydrolytic and UV stability as well as radiation resistance. PEI is suited for repeated steam, hot air and cold chemical sterilisation. It is inherently flame retardant and can be used at continuous temperatures up to 375°F. To add extra strength to the spacer design, the PEI resin can be reinforced with glass fibers as well as other reinforcement materials such as carbon. The manufacturer reports that custom spacers can be combined with other high-performance plastic and elastomer components to form a completed assembly.
The manufacturer also offers a variety of design services. These include preliminary engineering assistance and mechanical design review, materials engineering including research and development into a range of high-performance plastics.
