Netherlands-based DSM has reported that it has introduced the first 100% coloured implantable-grade ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) fibre. The blue strand joins the company’s Dyneema Purity family of fibres, which it describes as the strongest medical-grade fibres available.

Dyneema Purity Blue can be used to develop a high-strength suture alone or in combination with the company’s standard white fibres. Dyneema Purity Blue maintains the same features of the Dyneema Purity material, including its maximum strength (15× stronger than quality steel), whilst offering a low profile, softness and abrasion resistance.
