A portable memory token containing four kilobits of nonvolatile, reprogrammable memory has been proven to withstand up to 45 kGy (4.5 Mrad) of gamma radiation with no data loss. The GammaSafe memory token/receptacle system from Datakey Electronics allows medical device manufacturers to add anticounterfeit and limit-use capabilities to single-use or limited-use disposables that are sterilised using gamma radiation. The GammaSafe memory tokens (along with the company’s other portable memory devices) also survive EtO and autoclave sterilisation procedures. An optional integrated tether allows medical device OEMs to add the GammaSafe memory token to an existing device without changing the design of their disposable.
