The Lubrizol Corp. has announced eight new medical materials from its LifeScience Polymers division. These medical materials are an extension of the Carbothane line of polycarbonate-based thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs) and encompass a range of grades and radiopacities. The company will exhibit the new materials at the 2013 Medical Design & Manufacturing West Conference, taking place Feb 12–14 in Anaheim, California, USA.

The Aromatic Carbothane TPU materials are designed to feature improved chemical resistance and increased resistance to creep compared with other medical materials. The products are suitable for long-term implantation applications, including catheters and devices that will remain in the body for more than 30 days, and for permanent spinal and orthopaedic implants.
These medical materials are available in four clear grades and four radiopaque grades, which include a 20% loading of barium sulfate.
Lubrizol’s medical material division, the LifeScience Polymers group, is focused on the development of polymer solutions for the healthcare industry.
