Winner of the red dot industrial design award, the D5 dental mill is the only machining centre in the world operated by an Apple iPad, according to Datron AG. The new milling and grinding machine combines the precision, performance, and speed advantages of industrial production systems with small space requirements to enable convenient installation in dental laboratories. The innovative machine offers flexibility in the production of dental restorations, due in part to its compatibility with open-interface CAD/CAM components. The D5 is suited for processing nonprecious metal, titanium, zirconia, glass ceramics, nanocomposites, PMMA, and wax, as well as cast materials. Its five-axis simultaneous machining implements complex designs with high precision, yet the novel machine fits through any standard door frame. The D5 is available as part of a custom CAD/CAM system or can be integrated into an existing system.
