VCSEL chip suitable for medical-instrumentation applications

Optoelectronics Company Ltd has developed a 850-nm highpower vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) chip. The SH85-4U001 chip provides a maximum output power of 20 mW at an operating current of 50 mA and operating voltage of 2.1 V maximum. The chip has a spectral bandwidth of 0.85 nm maximum and a typical threshold current of 15 mA. The device is suitable for applications such as position sensors, encoders and medical instrumentation.
